JawaPos.comPetra 1 Christian Junior High School Surabaya again showing progressive steps in aligning education with the needs of the times. On Monday (21/4), this school officially launched a new extracurricular entitled Pythaverse. A STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) based learning program designed to encourage students' creativity, critical thinking, and innovation from an early age.

The launch of Pythaverse is the result of a collaboration between PPPK Petra and NVT, a technology-based education platform developed by young medal-winning scientists from Vietnam and Malaysia. This program is the first to be implemented in a private school in Indonesia, making Petra 1 Christian Junior High School a national pioneer in the implementation of Pythaverse.

The Head of R&D of PPPK Petra Surabaya, Lianto Atmodjo, said that this launch is in line with the vision of One Stop Learning (OSL) carried out by PPPK Petra. "We want to present extracurricular activities that are truly integrated with the needs of today's children. Not only as an additional activity, but as a space to grow for their potential and character," said Lianto.

Pythaverse is designed in two main modules: Junior Fundamentals for students in grades VI to VIII, and Senior Fundamentals for grades IX to XII. During the 10 months of effective learning, students will learn concepts such as robotics, artificial intelligence (AI), digital twin systems, the Internet of Things (IoT), to the development of technology-based projects.

This activity is not only carried out face-to-face. The Pythaverse platform adopts a blended learning system, where students have a personal learning account and can access the material at any time.

"This system allows students to study independently up to 70 percent of the total material. At school, they will practice the parts that require direct guidance, especially related to project implementation," explained Louis Fernaldy, Director of NVT who was present at the launch event.

Furthermore, Louis said that the approach carried out by Pythaverse not only focuses on technical aspects, but also encourages critical thinking and problem-solving skills. "We want students not only to know how to make technology, but to understand how technology can be a real solution to the challenges around them," he said.

The enthusiasm of the students was also seen since the first session was opened. A total of 38 students from the Petra cluster in the western region were recorded as participants in the first batch. They will follow a learning process that leads to the creation of a STEAM-based final project, such as a smart home, smart parking, or a simple automation system.

This program also marks an early milestone for Pythaverse's expansion to other Petra schools, from Petra Manyar to Petra Acitya. "Our target is not only to produce academically intelligent students, but also to have strong character and ready to face the challenges of the digital era. This is the future of education," added Lianto.

With the presence of Pythaverse, Petra 1 Christian Junior High School Surabaya not only complements a variety of extracurricular activities, but also prepares the young generation who are technologically literate, creative, and globally competitive.

We feel happy because children can learn more optimally. They can prepare themselves to welcome a challenging future where the digital age demands everything to be practical and fast and we must be able to think critically, innovatively and creatively. In addition, children can benefit many people," explained the Principal of Petra 1 Christian Junior High School Surabaya, Yurui.

According to him, the presence of Pythaverse is like a welcome dipper for schools to complete school programs that shape children to be able to think critically and also be able to solve problems faced through the projects given. Moreover, the seriousness of the implementation was seen from the beginning through the debriefing given to teachers who will accompany children in this activity, Yurui concluded.
