These two subjects are an effort by the Ministry of Education to build a superior generation. Especially in terms of mastering technology and being able to use it for positive things.

On the same occasion, the Director General of Teachers and Education Personnel (Dirjen GTK) of the Ministry of Education Nunuk Suryani also conveyed the same thing. According to him, mathematics learning at the early childhood education level, coding, and AI are still waiting for legal regulations.

However, just as conveyed by the Minister of Education, the subject will be applied in the next semester, namely the 2025/2026 school year. For the record, coding and AI are the subjects of choice.

The discourse on the application of coding and AI subjects was present for the first time from the Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, Gibran Rakabuming Raka. In front of the Heads of Education Offices in the November 2024 Education Policy Evaluation Coordination Meeting, Gibran asked elementary or junior high school students to be equipped with coding lessons.

With coding subjects taught in schools, he hopes that a golden Indonesia can really be achieved. RI in the future will be filled with many experts including coding and machine learning.

In response to this, Minister of Education Abdul Mu'ti explained that he had received a mandate to present coding and AI subjects in schools. But these two subjects will be elective.

These two subjects are planned to be taught at the 𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 (grades 4, 5, and 6) and 𝗷𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗿 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵 𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹. But not all schools will have these subjects.

Mu'ti said that only schools that are ready will present coding and AI subjects. Being ready in this case means having good internet facilities and qualified learning tools.

Coding and AI will be the first step for Indonesian children to master technology. These two subjects will support the development of students' literacy and numeracy.

Not alone, the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs is said to be involved in designing the coding and AI curriculum. The two ministries will develop a coding curriculum that is applicable and easy to understand.
